Getting the ball rolling!

From ccravens on 1/29/2011 7:18:55 AM

I'm going to start the ball rolling by downloading a couple of Tom's newest recordings into Audacity and adding a guitar and maybe either a mando or fiddle break, just for something different. My flatpicking guitar skills are still rude, but here's one way to practice to become better.

Another idea is to grab one of the "Rhythm Tracks" in the "Music Search" page and have a go. Everything is up for grabs, and any and all collaborations are welcome.

Sounds good to me. I've been messin' with (up) Red River Valley the last couple of days ... How about if I record and post a new version of 1 track playing rhythm/melody/rhythm and post it so you could add melody/rhythm/melody? Is that tune ok? What key (or other tune idea)?

I'm just experimenting with a bit of long distance collaboration with a harmonica player I know. The methodology has been to record the tracks into Audacity and email them back and forth. The only trouble appears to be file size - a couple of rhythm tracks, lead guitar, vocals, and on a three minute song you're suddenly up to 70 Mb! Be interested to know how others undertake such things.

Plus, of course, if anyone fancies working on something l'm up for it!

Hey Chris,
I like that group image that you used. I was wondering what you might come up with. I think that's just perfect.
I have noticed that when I've uploaded music, I believe there is instruction to make sure they are in MP3 format. I think we need to see if we can upload in .auf (audacity) format, so that tracks, click tracks, etc can be kept seperate until final mix. That might address Derek's file size issues, too.
Last night I recorded Wabash Cannonball as Rhythm/Melody/Rhythm/Melody so others can do the reverse (Melody/Rhythm/Melody/Rhythm) with whichever instruments they choose. I'll upload that when I get home from work today.
