Good idea

From bfloyd6969 on 1/31/2011 3:41:03 PM

Glad to be part of this group.  Seeing how this is a flatpicking group, what is your favorite flatpick?  As much as I like all the fancy boutique picks these days, I still tend to favor good 'ole celluloid.

I have always used Herco. Just easy to hang onto, and I never lost one in the sound hole. :-)

I'm just using some cheap Fender Medium picks that I bought. I haven't gotten to the point where I'm experimenting with different types yet. Soon maybe!

Have you ever heard of Blue Chip Picks?

Talk about pricey picks.
Holy cow, the name Blue Chip speaks for itself.

I heard about those! Something like $35 for a pick??? OMG, I don't see me buying one of them, I'll probably lose it! LOL I am going to stop into the local guitar store here in town and see if I can get a pick with a bit rougher surface. The ones I'm using are fairly slippery.

Ask for Herco like I use. It is rough, comes in medum and hard, and you don't have to be a stock broker to afford one. Now you know what kind s Wall Street stock picker users. Blue Chip Picks. Seriously the Herco cost like .25 each.

I never dropped one in the sound hole, Very grippy. What does Herco mean? They should have named them "Grippys".

I know it sounds crazy to pay so much for a pick, but my Bluechip is my favorite pick, and it's indestructable.

I never thought there was much difference between picks other than thickness. I do prefer a good thick pick. My current stock is mainly Fenders, Dunlop Ultex, and Tortis. That said, I did try the Clayton Acetel pick, and it definitely has a very distinctive character and sound. Soft, mellow sound. What's interesting is that it almost sounds raspy on my D-28.

I haven't tried any of the expensive ones like Red Bear, Wegan, or Blue Chip yet.

I found the same as you, brokepick. The Clayton Acetal can have a mellow warm tone, but once I angle it just a bit, it gets that nice raspy tone and can cut through nicely :)

Taylor celluloid heavy. Good picks, cheap price, cool colors. :D

Had couple of Wegens which are easy to hang on to and cheap but I find myself sticking with a Red Bear speed bevel which requires a little doctoring every now and then with some fine grit sandpaper but pulls a lot of tone with little effort.

The cost of Bluechip depends on how often you lose picks. I went a year with the same pick and decided I could afford a Bluechip since i could probably hang on to it. When you think of how much we spend on guitars, a $35 pick isn't that expensive.

Fender medium classic celluloid.

Tried out a bunch but came back to where I started.

Just to say I spoke too soon.

Fender Heavy, classic celluloid.

I haven't tried the ultra boutique picks (BC, RB, etc) but tortex, casien, buffalo horn, etc etc w/this name & that & so far I'd still just as soon have a good ole Fender hvy as any. Druther mostly.
