type of flatpick

From cdecosse on 2/5/2011 10:35:30 AM

I normally use a 2mm tortise shell  ( made from old jewelry box by a friend so don't freak out ! ) and it works very well on my taylor. am just now experimenting with gemstone picks. Having some surprising results. Who knew ?  Any one else tried these ?

I've tried everything from Red Bear, Shark-fin, Dunlop, Fender, Martin, stone, wood, tortoise, metal, glass, credit cards, bread bag clips, Coconut shell, and on and on and I keep coming back to the Blue Chip. The TAD-1R 50 is by far my go to pick and although I thought I'd never spend that much for a pick, it's been worth it's weight in gold to me. I did do a minor modification to it by drilling holes in it like the Red Bear picks. Truly a design plus on the RB picks. RB is my second choice. Best $$ I've ever spent. Have been playing over 45 years and only recently became aware of what a difference the right pick can do. Went from using nothing but thin picks to the thicker ones. What a difference in sound and control!! Best overall advice: just like guitars, strings, etc. you've got to try as many as possible and find what works best, sounds best and meets your budget, but YOU have to do the comparisons, not rely on others opinions.

I'm not familiar with the red bear pick , but intend to try in the near future. Have also opted for the blue chip . The brazilian agate trial was a wash. So for now the " chip " rules
