I am learning to come out of my shell this summer :) I have been focusing on the banjo for the for the past year, but I am looking to improve my guitar playing as well. It's always nice to have inspiration from female musicians!

I think it's always important for the ladies to have their own place to gather....nothin against the guys. and thanks for joining the group. What are you working on guitar wise, and what kind of guitar do you have?

After 20 year of just strumming my guitar to accompany my singing I'm trying to work on precision (alternating bass notes). I'd love to start adding leading runs in, and eventually do some flatpicking and soloing. This will take some time, I know.
I have a few guitars around the house, nothing great, but they have sentimental meaning. 1) My mom's Yahama that I started playing when I was 15. 2) My theater teacher's old Tamakine that he gave me when I graduated from high school 3) An Ibanez 12 string I HAD TO HAVE in college 4) An Gibson SG reissue I also had to have so I could crank up the amp 5) a new Ibanez-that technically belongs to my work place-but I have been playing lately because it's not so bulky and the neck is thinner.
So, I'm going to piggy back with my banjo work-learn some songs to sing, accompany myself, and eventually add to the boring back up! Any suggestions as to recordings or books are always welcome :)

sorry for not getting back to you sooner-been working and also just found out my Dad tore his retina. One book that is great for getting into flatpicking gently is by Wayne Erbsen-his "Flatpicking for the Complete Ignoramous" is a wonderful book. I'm re-learning flatpicking using this as my main book, tho I do have other books that I pick up tips from here & there. Sounds like you have quite the collection! I have an early Epiphone f hole archtop Zenith that reminds me of the guitar my grandmother played-you're lucky to have your mother's guitar. Other guitars include an acoustic Dean 7 string,Aria 6 string, and a Morrell Resonator round neck guitar.

Ooh, I hope your dad is doing alright. Nothing is more important than family! Thanks for the advice :)
