When I started this, I don't think I had a clear idea of what old-time music really is. Now, I really don't know.

It seems like there's three components, 1) style of playing, 2) size and configuration of the group (if not solo), and 3) choice of tunes.

... that's as far as I got.

Any ideas?

	INFP47 says: 2/15/2011 2:15:06 PM For me, old-time is the kind of music rural people in the southern mountains played in their homes before WWII. It's often fiddle based and, in a group, no instrument takes a solo break.
	Tom Smith says: 2/15/2011 2:31:46 PM I'm starting to see that. Maybe the Carolina Chocolate Drops video exemplifies this. And is seems like the dominate instruments for most is "well known" practitioners is the fiddle (and/or banjo). But what about the Rising Fawn String Ensemble? Because they each get breaks, is it maybe a "Modified" or modernized Old-time, or something else altogether?
