My name is Matthew Phelps I have been playing the guitar since I was 10 years of age. My father started me on the guitar bucause he couldn't afford a dobro.So he told me you need to know how the music works before we can get you a dobro,So i started learning how the rhythem worked and how to make runs from one chord to the other without loosing time.My Father allways listened to bluegrass even before I was born and he loved Tony Rice, but i never really knew what was going on in the song's nor did I know why he was so great to my Father. Untill the age of 12 my dad would take me out in the car for a ride and listen to music and play it pretty loud then one day he got his hands on David grisman's first quintet album and when I heard the guitar on those song's it blew me away. & from then on I had an Interest in the Guitar and have never turned back. Although you can hear alot of rice influince in my playing style i am starting to venture more out into my own style.I love the melody lines in a song and that is my goal to play the melody like I wrote it myself and make the song sound like a song.I have been playing for 13 years now and love music just wish i could play like most of my favorite's.
