Hi folks, I would like to share a bit of advice with all of you who have been fighting CHCSIPTH as I have for many years. First of all I'll tell you a small bit about myself and then I'll tell you definition of "CHCSIPTH".
I cut my teeth on electric guitar and played the club circuit for about 23 years and decided I needed to change environments and decided to try bluegrass. Wow what a difference in styles! It was like relearning the very instrument I had been playing for so long, now in acoustic form. Now for the problem and the advice I promised. The group I'm currently playing with http://www.backwoodsrevival.com tours much of Northern Alabama and parts of Tennessee and Georgia and we rely very much on monitors to hear ourselves on stage.
I have found that with the acoustic guitar (unlike my old electric) sometimes it can be very hard to hear the instrument especially if your standing near a banjo...no offense, but they are just naturally LOUD. While I'm taking my breaks I would try to pick so hard in able to hear myself that I would not only loose tone, but speed as well.
Thus the term CHCSIPTH "Can't Hear Crap So I Pick Too Hard"
Here is my advice, don't do it, don't sit back and deal with it. Fix the problem!! For a long time I just dealt with it because I didn't want to be difficult. Don't let it happen to you! You must find a super acoustic mic that has little feed back and crank her up in the monitor.
I recommend a Samson C02 or a Sennheiser. Hear yourself and be heard.!
