I am a bluegrass picker and when I tune my guitar, (D~28) it is by ear. I do use a tuner for a reference and always tune my B a bit flat from what my tuner says. I have heard other musicians talk about tuning their B a little sharp. I heard Tony Rice and Kenny Smith talk about this, and Tony even says something about it not being a true mathematical formula. My intonation is perfect on my guitar and I do use a lot of harmonics. I notice it in other guitars when in a jam type situation; it comes to my ear a bit shrill. Mathematical formula??? Does anyone really know the answer?

Our songs are on U tube 'Steve and Rita' I’m married 27 yrs son & Daughter 8 yr old granddaughter, who plays guitar. 1 yr grandson who will play. Wife Rita and I do a lot of harmony songs together, just solo now. We were in a Bluegrass band (Cypress Station) out of Fortladerdal Florida for 2.5 yrs and got to know a lot of good musicians. Had a lot of fun.
