More known as a finger picking song it was written by a young lady around 18 years of the age at the time by the name of Elizabeth Cotton. She was left handed and played on a right handed guitar which gave her an unusual style of playing sometimes referred as Cotton Picking. , no racist pun intended . She grew up in North Carolina and the song became popular in the 50's by the growing Folk music scene and has been recorded by many artist including one that is well known among flatpickers, Doc Watson. One day trying out some different things I got this train a rollin. So it's different then any version I think anyone has ever heard.
