I have two very old (decades) Paige guitar capos where the original rubber sleeve hardened and literally broke off. Checking on line for replacement sleeves the cost was from $7 - $15 + shipping for 2.5 inches of rubber.

Bought 12" of 1/8" i.d. automotive vacuum hose at O'Reilly for $1.62.

Works perfectly.

I'm not sure what this tubing was meant for, but it sounds like the same thing, and cost about a buck a foot at Home Hardware. I and a couple of friends have replaced sleeves and I still have about 7 or 8 inches left.  The capo in the photo is for a banjo.
