I'm 23 yrs old married to my wife Cara, who happens to be gorgeous that it'll knock the wind out of you. I've been playing the banjo for about five years now. Prior to picking up the banjo, I played the guitar, bass, and the piano since I was very young, so my musical interests go back pretty far. As far as my guitar playing is concerned, I am no flat picker...yet. That's why I am here. I get a lot of my musical gifts from my bloodline on my mother's side of the family. My mother and a lot of her siblings as well as my grandparents were a singing gospel group for many years. Around the time that I was 17 or 18 I realized that I had a hidden interest for acoustic music especially bluegrass. Even through the times of my teenage years when I swore the only music that I would ever serioulsy play was hardcore (ask me if you dont know that genre). That all changed when I heard a group by the name of the Avett Brothers. I had seen them once when I was about 17 in Concord NC, and truly loved what I heard and saw on stage. After that I started attending concerts seeeing various young progressive bluegrass groups like Yonder Mountain String Band etc. I borrowed my brother's old beat up resonator banjo, and that's when I knew that I was going to commit myself to the banjo. It didn't take me too much longer to get a hold of my own banjo. Presently, I play around at a lot of open jams, doing what I can to teach myself an all-round versatile style that captures the traditional feel of Scruggs, while pushing into a newer, fresher style that has my own uniqueness. I've considered taking lessons, but I don't have time or money, so I continue to teach myself.
