info on Gibson Guitar

I have this old Gibson Melody Maker solid body guitar and I'm trying to find out how old it is. The guy  that I got it from had sanded it down to refinish it and never did. The only numbers I can find on it is what looks like a serial number on the back of the neck up where the keys are. Does anyone know how I can get any info on this guitar?

Played guitar for several yrs. I played with a bluegrass gospel group for about 5 yrs. ,then lost most of the use of my left hand in tablesaw accident. I'm not able to cord my guitar anymore but I still like to fram on 'um. I do pretty good on 2 fingered bass playing and just fair on the dobro. Sure miss playin guitar.
