Marcy Marxer has been a professional musician since sound systems were powered by coal. In the early days of her career she often had to stop her show to shovel coal into the back of the mixer (violins play sad music with vibrato here). Sound systems then graduated to hamster power which soon failed because the little metal wheels started to squeak after the first 30 min. and the noise spoiled the show for everyone. Now the entire audience sits on bikes and pedals to power the sound system which makes the show officially "green" and assures that everyone gets their exercise. Marcy has performed and recorded with Pete Seeger, Mike Seeger, Peggy Seeger, Tom Paxton, Gabe Ward and the Hoosier Hotshots, Patsy Montana, Ola Belle and Bud Reed, Tony Trischka, Bruce Molsky, The Critton Hollow Stringband, Riders in the Sky, Mariachi Los Comparos, Eva Cassidy, Bill Kirtchen, Danny Gatton, Pete Kennedy, Mark O'Connor, Rap Master DJ Hapa, Adam Hurt, Mary Chapin Carpenter, John McCutcheon, Tom Chapin and many others. She performs regularly with the extremely talented singer and instrumentalist Cathy Fink. Marcy has won several awards including the prestigious Kaufy Award, 2 GRAMMYs with 11 other nominations and has been honored in the halls of Congress. She basically performs everywhere, all the time, for anyone willing to listen.
