Jed Clark started playing guitar when he was only nine. His parents bought him a starter guitar and took him to a local church where the youth minister taught him basic chords. In about 4 months, the youth minister suggested that maybe Jed needed a more advanced teacher. Since no teachers were readily available, lessons weren't started again until Jed moved with his parents to a different town three years later. At age twelve, he began lessons with Chuck Hicks at Harding University. Chuck has a strong background in the field of music, particularly in the areas of performance and stringed instruments. Chuck began teaching Jed finger-style guitar. Somewhere around age 14, Jed decided to learn Roberto Dalla Vecchia's version of Blackberry Blossom. He has since moved more in the direction of flatpicking guitar. Artists who have influenced Jed are: Tony Rice, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Connor, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Bryan Sutton, just to name a few.
