Started playing a lap guitar like a regular acoustic in 1963. Hey, I didn't know what it was. Bought a 1965 Gibson SG Special ($75!) and started or joined several rock bands playing Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, etc. First song: Van Morrison's "Gloria" as performed by a local band, The Shadows of Knight. Some Chicagoland Battle of the Bands success. Vocals, guitar, saxophone and piano until going to Purdue in 1970 where I solo-ed for money, mainly at weddings. Got a real job in 1975 with McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis and had little time for playing though I performed at several friend's weddings as a gift to them. I measure time in decades now, with three of them passing without much playing. I'm mainly a finger picker with desire to be a flatpicker. 3.5 years in Knoxville TN and some exposure to Bluegrass through Steve Kaufman. Looking to find a jam to learn more songs and progress. Live in West Knox and work in Oak Ridge TN.
