I really like Gordon Lightfoot. Probably the best singer of the singer/songwriters of the 60s.

Ian and Sylvia Tyson were one of the early 60's folk duos. Four Strong Winds was covered by a number of early folk groups and singles such as Judy Collins, The Kingston Trio, John Denver, Neil Young and many more. It's been part of my collection since about 1967.

Townes Van Zandt wrote a song called, "To Live's to Fly" which contained the line, "Where ya been is good and gone, all ya keep's the gettin' there". This song says the same thing is a little different way.

This is a song Steve wrote about that icon of what historians call "The Great Westward Expansion" the cowboy. We just call it the Old 'west.

First heard this done by Allen Damron back in '68;, right after Jerry Jeff wrote it. Found out later that Allen was the first person to record it, when he put it on a live album recorded at The Checkered Flag, a club he ran for Rod Kennedy of Kerrville Folk Festival fame. I recorded this with my 1937 000-18 that I paid the princely sum of $100.00 for back in 1967. That was a weeks wages for me back then

I was playing a benefit concert for our Oklahoma state senator who was launching what turned out to be an unsuccessful bid to become the Democratic nominee for President many years ago. The headliner was Arlo Guthrie, who was playing because Marjorie Guthrie was a friend of the senator. The conversation worked its way around to what was Woody's favorite song. Turns out, he was most proud of the Columbia River Project which the Department of Interior had commissioned Woody to right some songs for, and Arlo said this is the one he liked the best.

This song began as a tribute to Townes VanZandt, but ended up being about all the singer, songwriters I've run into over the 50 plus years I've been doing this. Thanks for sharing your music with me and writing the soundtrack for our lives.

This from a live CD I made when I was playing at a coffeehouse in Shawnee, Oklahoma called Sips. Being a humble man, I cut out the thunderous applause at the end.

Lightfoot was one of, if not the best, singer of the singer/songwriters who began their career in the 60s. This is one of his I've been doing since 1968 or 69. Had a friend, Emmett Robinson who n The Main Point in Brynn Mar, Penn. Lightfoot would play there from time to time, and Emmett always brought new Lightfoot tunes with him every time he played in OKC, so I got a lot of good songs before they were ever put on albums.
